Yogurt and granola! So most of you FB people know I made homemade yogurt the other day. But for you blogger's, I made homemade yogurt! It came out well, a little on the tangy side, but it takes some batches and tweaking to get the right time down. If it goes to long it starts to get tangy, but if it doesn't go long enough it doesn't set up, so practice makes perfect here! It also depends on the milk and starter you use. But I found using the yogurt maker helps, a lot! Keeps it at the right temperature for the whole process, and it doesn't take up much space and the little jars are cute! I have a batch of goat milk, honey and vanilla going right now, so tomorrow we will see how it taste. The first batch we have been using for smoothies or the kids are puttin lots of honey on it.
Granola!
I love granola! I have a hard time finding a recipe I like though. Well I found a pretty dang good one from a bread book! Its so delish! I made it this morning and had some with milk. I have to make another batch though cause I am giving some away as a thank you gift to my friend. Zander had a bowl and Madden eat some of mine. Yummy Yummy Yummy! I want to try it on my yogurt tomorrow! Oh and do you see that bead book the granola is sitting one? It is fantastic! A must ready if you love homemade bread as much as I do. I want to try all the recipes! The whole thing behind there book is to make a big batch a dough, put it in the fridge and every day you can take a chunk, shape it into whatever you want, let it rise for about 40 min and bake it off, so you can have fresh homemade bread everyday! Or when people come over! And they will think you are the best, making them homemade bread! I'm just in love with the idea, I read the whole book in about an hour and then went to go make the Brioche dough. There is also a chocolate bread recipe I must try, and the cheese, and an oatmeal bread that makes a great sandwich bread(so they say, we shall see!). So be warned there will be lots of breads to come!!! Oh how I love to bake bread!! Just wish it would cool down outside! Then I can pair it with some soups Mmmm.
For the yogurt recipe I would follow the manufactures recipes the first couple times, or you can go
here for a good tutorial.
Granola Recipe
from Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup canola oil(I used olive, better for you)
2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla(I used a whole teaspoon)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 cups rolled oats
1/4 teaspoons sesame seeds
3/4 cup chopped pecans or the nut of your choice
3/4 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried cherries, or cranberries
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a high-sided cookie sheet with parchment paper, oil, or butter, or a large silicone mat.
Mix the honey, maple syrup, oil, water, vanilla, cinnamon, and the salt in a large measuring cup.
In a large bowl, combine the liquid mixture with the dry ingredients, except for the dried fruit, mix everything until evenly coated with the honey mixture. Spread the mixture evenly over the prepared baking sheet. Bake for about 30 minutes, stirring every ten minutes, until the granola is golden brown. Baking time will vary, depending on the depth of granola in the cookie sheet or pan.
After the baking is complete, add the dried fruit.
Allow to cool, store in jars.
They use this recipe in a granola bread, how good does that sound?
